It is important to regularly update Maltego Graph (Desktop) to the latest version.
We recommend Enabling Auto Update within Maltego Graph (Desktop).
Ideally, this should be done online by following the instructions set out in the Updating Maltego Graph (Desktop) Online section below.
However, a method to update offline is available. Please refer to Updating Maltego Graph (Desktop) Offline section below should you need to perform an offline update.

Updating Maltego Graph (Desktop) Online
Ideally, Maltego Graph should be updated online. This can be done by:
- Clicking the Application Button (circle in top left corner)
- Hovering over Tools
- Clicking Check for Updates
The steps to perform an online update are shown in the image below:
The Maltego Graph update wizard will open and check for updates. If your version of Maltego Graph is already up-to-date you can click Finish.
If there are new updates which need to be installed, you will be prompted to install the updates in the window below:
You can click Next to allow the Maltego Graph to download the latest updates. Once the updates are finished downloading you will need to restart the Client for the updates to be installed.
After restarting Maltego Graph you can confirm that you have the latest version installed by checking the version number shown at the top of the client.
Enabling Auto Update of Maltego Graph (Desktop)
We recommend enabling Auto Update of Maltego Graph (Desktop). Enabling this feature will ensure that your Client searches for updates automatically and notifies you of their availability.
Click on the Application Menu button in the top left corner of the Maltego Graph (Desktop) Client and select Options.
From the Options Window, select Updates and make sure that the Check for updates automatically box is checked.
Click Apply, and OK.
Success. Your Maltego Graph (Desktop) Client is now set up to enable Auto Update.
Updating Maltego Graph (Desktop) Offline
To perform an offline update on Maltego Graph (Desktop), please ensure you are running Maltego 4.3.X or later and then extract the .zip file containing the updates locally here.
Run the applicable command:

On Windows: (Change "C:/path/to" to the folder where the updates were extracted)
maltego -ufile:/C:/path/to/updates.xml.gz
On Mac: (Change "/path/to" to the folder where the updates were extracted)
maltego -ufile:/path/to/updates.xml.gz
On Linux: (Change "/path/to" to the folder where the updates were extracted)
/usr/share/maltego/bin/maltego -ufile:/path/to/updates.xml.gz
Updating from Version 4.2X to Version 4.3.0 - Manual Update Required
Note: The update from version 4.2X to version 4.3.0 will not be possible using the Update tool in Maltego Graph (Desktop). To perform this update, you will be required to manually uninstall your existing version and re-install Maltego to the latest version.
Steps to update from Maltego version 4.2x to Maltego version 4.3.0:
- It is recommended that you perform a backup of your existing configuration. Instructions on how to do this can be accessed here.
- Uninstall your current Maltego Graph (Desktop) version.
- Re-install Maltego Graph (Desktop) using the latest installer from our Downloads Page
