How to control your data collection settings

Collection settings determine what data Maltego Monitor collects for your Case. Think of it as fine-tuning your intelligence gathering - you decide exactly what information you want to collect and what to skip.


Accessing the Collection Settings

  1. Open your case
  2. Click the settings icon
  3. Select "Advanced settings"



General Collection Settings

From within your settings, you can disable or enable collection of intelligence from your available sources. The moment you change a setting, the collection will stop or continue for the specific source.

X Collection Settings

Reply Collection

When someone responds to a message matching your search, should we collect it?

  • Works like listening to a conversation - you hear both sides
  • Collects all replies, even if they don't match your search
  • High impact on data usage, impacting your X quota.


Turn it on when: Investigating threats, monitoring public reaction to events, tracking important conversations 

Keep it off when: Doing routine monitoring or when replies aren't crucial

Quote Reposts

Should we collect posts where people share and add their thoughts?

  • Like tracking how information spreads
  • Shows how people interpret and share information
  • Low impact on data usage


Turn it on when: following how information spreads

Keep it off when: focusing only on original content

Media & Links

Do you want posts containing images, videos, or links?

  • Only affects matching posts
  • Moderate impact on data usage

Media setting: turn off if images/videos aren't relevant

Link setting: turn off when focusing on direct communications

Account Filters

Want to focus or exclude specific types of accounts, such as bot accounts?

  • Set minimum followers (0-100M)
  • Set minimum/maximum post count
  • Choose specific countries
  • Helps reduce noise in your data


Use filters when:

  • Following influential accounts (set higher follower count)
  • Monitoring established accounts (set minimum post count)
  • Focusing on specific regions (select countries)
