Maltego Monitor (previously PublicSonar) supports the ability to collect Snaps from SnapMap by searching on a geo-location.
How to retrieve Snaps from SnapMap
1) Open a search and select 'Add location'
2) Select a 'Location from library' or choose 'Custom location'
3) Add the location to the search and save it |
After a moment, Snaps from SnapMap will appear in the message feed. Every Snap may contain the following elements:
- Caption: May be included, if the creator of the Snap added one.
- Geo-tag: Since SnapMap doesn't give the exact coordinates of a Snap, this tag is simply the middle point of the geo-location search. This tells you that the Snap is somewhere within the search area but not exactly on which spot.
- Visual: Snaps always include either a picture or a video. If this is enabled for your organization, image analysis can be used to filter on elements found within the picture.
Tips to use Snapchat
- If you need to monitor a large area, it's better to break down the search area into smaller geo-locations. Since Snaps don't come with exact geo-coordinates, making the search area smaller, helps to trace the original location of the Snap.
- If you monitor Snapchat in a case with a lot of search terms in the filters, you might filter out relevant Snaps if they don't contain a caption. If your organization does not have access to image recognition, the best way is to create a separate case or dashboard for just Snapchat, without keyword filters.
