When opening a downloaded Maltego Search investigation using the Maltego Desktop Client, you need to re-set the graph layout.
To the left side of the main graph canvas, under Layout, click on Set Layout mode to Block.
This way, you will be able to see your search input at the top of the graph, and all results and subsequent searches below it.
