Running Transforms

Modified on: Tue, 1 Oct, 2024 at 12:51 PM

Right-clicking anywhere on your graph, will bring up the Run Transforms Menu

The list of Transforms offered are filtered depending on the Entities you have selected. For example, selecting an email address Entity on your graph will only offer Transforms that take an email address Entity as an input.

As there are a great many Transforms available, Maltego includes a built-in search feature which allows analysts to input keywords in order to direct their investigations.

The search bar can be used to search through all available Transforms and Machines, irrespective of what level of hierarchy the investigator has selected.

In the example above, the Transform Set Maltego Standard Transforms was selected, followed by Files and Documents from Phrase. When a search is made in this list for the Email Entity, the search parameters are extended, and all available Transforms are queried, not just those in the currently selected list.

Transform Progress

When running a Transform, a progress bar will appear in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

When running multiple Transforms on multiple Entities the progress bar will give an indication of the overall progress of all Transforms.

The [X] (far right of the status bar) allows you to easily cancel all Transforms that are currently running (for example – if you have selected the incorrect Transform and don’t want the results to distort your graph with irrelevant Entities). To cancel a running Transform, simply select the [X] at the bottom of the screen. You will then be given a confirmation dialog that looks as follows:

By simply selecting Yes you can cancel the running Transforms. Selecting No will allow the Transforms to complete as usual.

When running multiple Transforms, you can click on the Transform progress to see which Transform is currently running:
