Maltego's Privacy Mode settings focus on allowing or restricting the Maltego Desktop Client to make direct contact with the target.
There are two modes in this feature:
- Normal Mode
- Stealth Mode
The Privacy Mode options can be found in the Investigate tab in the ribbon in the Maltego Desktop Client:
Normal Privacy Mode
The Normal Privacy Mode provides the richest Maltego experience. Your Maltego Desktop Client will be allowed to fetch data directly from the internet. Examples include fetching Entity images from URLs and Favicons for website overlays.
Stealth Privacy Mode
Use the Stealth Privacy Mode if it's important that no internet traffic originates from your machine's IP during your investigations. In this mode, your Maltego Desktop Client will not fetch any data directly from the internet. Downloading Entity images and image overlays will be blocked in this mode.
However, you should be aware that Transforms may still make direct connection to the target from the Transform Server, or from your computer in the case of Local Transforms.
Configuration
Following a new installation of Maltego, during the initial configuration steps, you will be prompted to set the privacy mode option you would prefer to use.
