Maltego Browser Application Guide (Maltego Admin)

Overview 

The Maltego Browser App serves as a single point of access and management for Maltego's Products and Services.


Customers can manage their Organization and its Users, view and assign their Products, view subscriptions and invoices, and much more.

Accessing the Maltego Browser App 

URL and login credentials

  • The Maltego's Browser App can be accessed here: https://app.maltego.com/.
  • To access the app, a user needs to have registered for a Maltego ID.
    • Register a new Maltego ID using the sign-up option on the login page, or
    • Use your existing Maltego ID credentials to login to the Browser App.

 

User Management 

Invite Users to an Organization

  • To invite a user to your organization, navigate to the Users tab from the side menu
  • Click on Invite Users button on the top right
    • Enter the user's email address. Multiple email addresses can be added by adding a comma in the email address field.
    • Specify the User's Role in the Organization (See the available types of Roles below).
    • Click the Confirm button to invite the user.
      • An email invitation will be sent to the user.
      • Upon accepting the invite, the user can access the browser app and its features.
        • If the user has not signed up for a Maltego ID, they will need to go through the registration process specified above.
        • Status of the user will keep showing Pending until they accept the invite.
      • In case the invite needs to be sent again, there is a resend invite option available:
        • Go to the Details View of the user.
        • On the top right, select the Resend icon.
        • Click on Resend to resend the invitation to the user to join the organization.


Types of User Permissions & how to modify their assignment 

  • There are currently four Roles present in an Organization:
    • Org Admin

Has access to the user management features of an organization in the customer portal. Org admins cannot access financial data (unless they are assigned the role of finance admin as well)


    • Finance Admin

Has access to only billing and subscription features of an organization in the customer portal


    • Investigator/Member

Has viewing access to products inside an organization and can navigate to/use products which are assigned by the Org admin


    • Beta User (Only available when Beta Program is enabled)

Users with member access but are enrolled in the beta program by their organization which has also opted in for beta program. Beta role is assigned when an organization is enabled/enrolled for the beta program.

 

  • An Org or Finance Admin can update the user's permissions inside an organization, then this can be done by simply: 
    • Navigating to the Users tab from the side menu.
    • Select the user and click on Details.
    • From the Roles dropdown, select the Role which you'd like to assign the user.
      • It's important to note that an org admin cannot change the role of a finance admin and similarly, a finance admin cannot change the role of an org admin.
      • Multiple roles can be marked selected as specified in the initial setup.


Remove User from Organization

  • To remove a user from the organization, the org admin can navigate to the User Detail page.
  • Click on the Delete icon on the top right.
  • Check the relevant confirmation boxes and click Confirm.
  • The user and their product assignments will be removed from the organization.

 

Assign Products to a User

  • To assign a Product in your organization to a user, navigate to the Users tab from the side menu
  • Select a user and navigate to the Detail page for that user.
    • A list of assigned products will be displayed for the org admin to view.
    • The org admin can assign one or more products to the user by selecting from the list.

Note: If the available seats are full for a product, then the assignment would not complete and an error would be shown.

  • Similarly, an admin can also unassign one or more products from this view

 

Product Management 

View and Assign Products 

  • Org Admins can also use the Product tab to view and assign products within an organization.
  • To Assign a product, navigate to the Products tab.
    • Select the product you wish to assign.
    • Select the relevant user/s in the org to which you wish to assign the selected product.
    • Click Confirm and the assignment will be complete.
  • A user with the role Investigator who has been assigned a product can view its details by navigating to the Products tab


Overview and Maltego Credits

  • Maltego's Credit Allowance enables users to access and query out-of-the-box data on the Maltego platform. Based on the size and specificity of your data query, varied numbers of credits will be consumed.
  • For an overview of your organization's credits, please navigate to the Overview page.
    • From the Overview page, you can view the total monthly credit allowance for your organization along with the purchased plan.
    • You can view the usage logs of your organization's users, i.e. what number of credits were spent by each of the users in the organization.
    • The credit allowance is usable by all organization users and currently there is no limit enforced on what number of credits can be utilized per individual or role.
    • The credit allowance is updated every calendar month.


User Settings & Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

  • To access user's settings and enable/disable Multi Factor Authentication (MFA), click on the relevant user's avatar on the top right corner.
  • You will be redirected to the Settings page with the following information:
    • Email: Cannot be updated
    • Change Password: Users can update their password
    • Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA):
      • A QR code is visible to scan via the Authenticator app.
      • Upon authentication, a user will be asked to enter the verification code from the Authenticator app
      • After confirmation, the MFA for the user's account will be enabled.
      • If for some reason the QR code is unscannable, the user can use the Authenticator app secret to enable the MFA.
        • Simply copy the secret and add it on the Authenticator app.
      • Generate Recovery Codes: In case of lost access to the Authenticator app, users can generate recovery codes which can be saved and used in that scenario 
        • Click on generate recovery codes option and save those codes.
